I love teaching dual language Kindergarten and try really hard to teach my kids in both languages through the curriculum provided. Although we're given all materials, sometimes they don't help us with the kinds of skills and strategies we're attempting to implement. Quality Spanish resources are truly difficult to find. While Teachers Pay Teachers is a godsend, finding resources in Spanish can be truly challenging, especially good quality read alouds. I love finding read alouds that match the topics we're studying and learning. I love seeing children's ability to create connections across different subjects and content. This is truly possible when good quality read alouds are carefully selected and read to them. Imagine receiving your language instruction through academic curriculum. It can be difficult to grasp a new language when you're trying to comprehend what you're learning usually for the first time. Now imagine later on in the day, your teacher reads you a book similar to the topic you were introduced to earlier. Even though it is in a language you're learning, the pictures and details are so vivid and captivating you begin to make sense of the lesson earlier in the day. It's an amazing process to be a part of, and an even more amazing one to witness.
