Learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement. Benefits of flexible seating include comfort, choice, sensory input, and building community, communication and collaboration. Many students struggle with attention and focus and flexible seating is a way to help. Our first grade classrooms have one recess a day and this option would allow for students to move about and get some of the wiggles out, while still being attentive in the classroom. In terms of academic achievement, seating options have been shown to result in better concentration and memory. Teachers who offer flexible seating also report their students are less disruptive and engage in fewer disciplinary incidents.
