Many of my below grade level students come from homes where reading is not prioritized - either because the parents have limited education (or limited English skills) and are not able to read well, or because it's just not important. The students I teach are not severely below grade, just one or possibly two levels below, and thus they are "on the bubble." For years, I have seen it as my mission to help steer their direction towards success in life. An ability to read (and even a love of reading) is a key in their success journey! It has been gratifying, year after year, to see an apathy or even disdain turn into a love for reading, for learning, and for life, during the year.

About my class
