These colored pencils and markers will allow the students to create quality and detailed maps. The various colors will allow for detailed differentiation. For example, different colors can signify the different nations and cultures that inhabited the region at the time of conflict: Hopi, Navajo, Zuni, Comanche, Apache, and several grouped under the name Pueblo. By using the different colors, it will be easier for both the artist and the viewer to make sense of the complex nature of the information being conveyed. For another example, New Mexico is comprised of many different landscape features: desert, forest, llano, valleys, mesas, range-land, etc.
