Students who are given opportunities to choose, while learning feel empowered. Since all students learn differently, they need to feel comfortable while working independently. While some students like to stand, others prefer to lie on the floor or take a seat somewhere around the room. According to Smith System, Flexible seating increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It also helps young minds stay more alert and focused. My goal is for students to feel comfortable while they are at school, learning in a way that fits their needs. It is important that students get to know themselves as learners and what works for them and what does not. Sharing and responsibility will also be lessons learned when choosing a cozy way to engage in independent learning. Students will learn to use the seating properly and respectfully. My project will allow children the freedom to make choices about how they collaborate. They can move the seating around the room with ease to work in pairs or small groups. And let's not forget, flexible seating is more fun!
