This project is meant to bring quality literature back to the classroom. We will begin our reading block with these chapter books, immersing students in robust vocabulary, interesting characters to analyze, and complex plots to discuss and connect with, all while building our fluency as readers. Starting our literacy block with quality stories will enhance their abilities and their love of reading. At this time, most of our reading block consists of core curriculum, aimed at helping students develop reading skills and strategies that will help them become proficient readers and score well on the FSA. Adding chapter books to this block will not only enhance their love of reading, but also provide students with multiple exposures to rigorous texts for their age, thereby increasing their performance on the FSA.
