Many of students have experienced injustice first hand. They share their experiences out of anger, embarassment and fear. Students will be able to relate to the main character and his view of the world. Students will read this novel in class while building vocabulary, literary concepts, and historical awarness. If the students could have their own book copy, it will make the text much more accessable for them. Giving students an opportunity to have a "new" book, instead of a worn out copy that has been used by ten years of students who came before them. By reading this novel with my students, I hope to give their view of the world a new reality. Helping them realize that humans make mistakes and learn from them. Humans can overcome great injustices and bounce back to rise above them.
