Sometimes reading and writing is not always fun. But it can be when you have the opportunity to provide different materials. Kindergartners are expected to be able to read and write as they enter first grade. I cannot control what happens at home, but I can control what happens in my classroom in regards to guided and independent practice with letters, sounds, and creating words. Having this station will help students get the practice they need, master our standards, and become successful readers and writers. This station also allows students to have choices within their fingertips which will make their learning even more meaningful—creating words with magnetic letters or using whiteboards marker or dry erase crayon. Kindergartners love choice when it comes to their own learning!
