As we dive into class discussions about the book, students will have a chance to explore not only the author's unique perspective but the viewpoint of others in the class as well, opening up discussions that will challenge them academically, as well as socially and emotionally. While many of the students will relate to the author's childhood, others need this perspective to connect to what their peers have experienced that they may not have themselves. What a great way to broaden their horizons and help them build connections between each other at the same time!
