This happens all the time with my students. They love to learn, but sitting on a wooden or plastic school chair just does not work. Their little bodies need to move and when they have specific parameters to follow, life makes sense to them and they can acquire new skills. My students are children with Down syndrome, Autism and Developmental Cognitive Delays. This is a difficult combination of students with challenging and unique needs. Each one of my students is full of energy, yet yearning to engage in play and make MEANINGFUL connections within their world. They want to be SUCCESSFUL within their environments. My students are in one of two special education classrooms in an all day kindergarten center. My school district is located in a high poverty area with 58% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch.
