Connecting books to art projects will both educate and inspire students. It will allow them to use their own creative genius to express their thoughts and ideas. Some of the books selected will foster social and emotional growth in a positive way. Creating tactile art, using a variety of textures, colors and painting techniques will help to convey their thoughts and feelings. Other books selected will foster additional inspiration for their art work at hand. After hearing a read-aloud of a book, either a non-fiction book about a famous artist, a fun fictional story, or a kid-friendly social story, students will respond by creating art projects using different techniques and mediums. Some projects will be self-created and others will be be done collaboratively. Students can make connections at home by sharing their artwork and their knowledge about famous artists, or have a dialogue with their parents about the story they heard at school and how it inspired them to create their masterpiece. Art and literature, a perfect pair!
