Being a first time Kindergarten teacher, I am quickly learning the ins and outs of what it takes to bring a child's educational journey full circle. Though the school I am at is rather affluent, it is apparent that there is still a need, and I am ready and willing to make that change. Students come from an array of familial backgrounds and communities different from that of what they see at home. Being that this will be a plethora of my students' first time in a formal school setting, they are still learning and adjusting to routines and classroom norms. Part of their first day projects will include taking pictures and documenting a lot of what they do. We will later use these pictures to create portrait books for them to later reflect on and see their amazing growth and change. While there is work, there should also be play. Short rests and snack breaks are vital to the learning process, and should be highly considered. My students will have snack in the afternoon as one of their center rotations. Though the majority of my parents are able to provide snacks and supplies, some are still not able to provide all of their child's classroom necessities. This being said, having snacks already available will help alleviate some of the strain some parents are facing. Lastly, my students will utilize the items in the treasure chest as incentives for their behavior and academic progress, which is monitored through Class Dojo.
