In reading our scholars sing, "You gotta read, baby read!"; however, they're not necessarily excited about learning the process. Our second grade reading team decided to make reading come to life for our scholars in small group sessions. The chart paper will enable us to help scholars use their strategies to break apart words and/or model strategies they can use to help them read. The word building manipulatives will give scholars that need more support a concrete experience while learning to read. The manipulatives can be used to extend any phonics lesson as well. We want our scholars to realize the many doors and gateways awaiting them once they learn to strengthen their reading skills!
