Learning how to throw on the potter's wheel will open up a new skill and experience for my art students. Not only will students learn to throw clay, but this form of building teaches patience and precision. This will especially benefit my autism students as they experiment with new textures and ways of adjusting to and overcoming many sensory issues related with being in a ceramics class. Throwing will allow all of my students to make more sophisticated artwork with a technique they have never experienced. I also think it will be good for my artists to see me learning something new and stepping outside of my comfort zone in pursuit learning something new to teach them.
