As a school counselor I have students who deal with extreme emotions and many times need a place and materials to calm down. By providing an area for my students they will have a variety of materials to use to help them cool down and release their built up anxiety from unknown/known traumatic events. Students will develop an understanding of the self control and how to deal with stressful situations. Students will understand the importance of self-control and how to practice a response strategy in a safe environment. Students will be able to explain the consequences of their choices. Students will be able explain strategies they may use to resist temptation/impulsive behaviors. By providing an area and a variety of items, I will be able to help my students calm down and be able to return to their academic class. I am requesting a variety of sensory items such as: sensory furniture and lighting as well as manipulates. This calm down area will be an essential part for my counseling program and the students in my school.
