My school district has adopted a new reading curriculum for us to teach our students this year. The curriculum contains a recommended list of books to use for read-alouds, however the books are not included with the materials provided. Exposing students to a wide variety of genres will increase their engagement in their own learning. My favorite part of the school day is reading aloud to my students. They love to hear about locations, people, and experiences that are new and exciting to them. Often hearing me read to them will spark a desire in them to pick up books to read independently.
