Kindergarten through third grade students at my school never get to play hockey. We don't have equipment designed for elementary kids that is safe and small enough for them to use. They are always disappointed when they find out they will not be playing. It bothers me to see their disappointment. I would like them to experience a new sport with hockey sticks that are soft and safe for kids, as well as the pucks. They would be so excited. Having hockey sticks and goals would provide them the opportunity to play the game. I believe the earlier they learn, the better they will be prepared for the middle school years. In addition to learning new skills and rules, they will be exposed to new vocabulary. They will learn by doing. Also, they may discover an appreciation for a new sport. The majority of these kids do not have hockey equipment at home. School is their only opportunity. I want to make this a reality for these kids. They deserve it!
