I teach in a low income school district where most of the school is free and reduced lunch. Any chance I get I pay off my students' lunch accounts and buy them food to take home for the weekend. I have bought many toiletry kits and snacks for when they arrive so they don't have the distraction of hunger. One student begs to not go home because he wants to stay and read books that he simply cannot afford to have at home. I've been moved around to many different grade levels resulting in changing classroom needs and buying most of my own supplies. As a single mother of two, finances can be a struggle. However, I went into teaching to make a difference in this world and hope that is what I am accomplishing. I truly love my students and they will always be part of my heart and family.
