CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.1: Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.2 Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. Help me provide my students with up-to-date, relevant stories that will motivate them to want to read more and allow them to work towards mastering third grade reading standards. Any book that I asked for multiple copies of will be used in small group settings. Students will be divided into differentiated groups and read the books with the group members. Groups will engage with the texts through project-based learning and develop various projects that they will share with the rest of their classmates. These could include poster presentations, performing skits, rewriting parts of the story, making a Kahoot for their classmates, writing a sequel or prequel to the book, and more! All projects are based on third grade standards, and students are forced to constantly revise and improve their work throughout the process.
