As a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, I wear several hats. Not only do I teach the much needed and discussed life skills for daily living, I also place an emphasis on career exploration through the Early Childhood Education pathway. Students receive hands-on experiences their senior year working in local preschools, Head Start and primary classrooms within our district.
I want my students to have every opportunity to be prepared to enter those environments ready to influence the young minds they are working with using developmentally appropriate practices to help them learn. The items chosen for the grant will allow my students to do that! The request for counting, sorting, and color-based manipulative sets is to help my students simulate and better understand the needs of the early learners. The Dr. Suess reading set gives the students the opportunity to explore the importance of building phonemic awareness and increase reading fluency for the preschool mind.
Your support will allow my students to further their knowledge in early childhood education and therefore influence and strengthen those that will follow them!
