The special education students in my classroom have a different routine to their day from general education students. In order for them to stay on task, I implement intermittent activities between lessons in order to allow them to stay focused on their task and gain mastery in academic challenges. Special education students have both academic challenges and auditory, physical and emotional challenges.
My students need weighted blankets for relieving stress, Bouncy Bands and stools for promoting focus and other tools for a calm corner inside of the room. These materials will allow students who have anxieties the opportunity to go to a place to use skills to develop emotional tools to master the process of refocus, allowing them the opportunity to return to the class to continue their lessons.
As their teacher, I would like to learn about my students' special needs with specific books on dyslexia to better serve my students. The cabinets and shelving will create an engaging classroom environment in which to store classroom books and materials. These are especially essential for me to have due to the barren classroom that I walked into as a new teacher just two weeks before school started. This funding would be a great addition to creating a perfectly engaging learning environment.
