Social Emotional Learning improves student well-being, reduces problem behaviors, supports academic achievement gains, and helps students develop social skills. It is the process through which children affectively apply skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, show empathy for others, and maintain positive relationships. Creating a safe and inviting space where students can feel comfortable talking and engaging in social emotional learning will help my students succeed. Providing students with a calming corner equipped with SEL books, furnishings, and sensory soothing materials will also help students when they need to de-escalate. Helping my students succeed socially and emotionally is key to their overall success.
