"Frankenstein" remains a highly relevant novel due to links with the ethics of science, child abandonment, and responsibility. Our school does not have funding to buy a class set of the novel. These Senior students need to read a classic novel to help prepare them for college and to enrich their thinking. Most students have never read a classic novel. We cover the life of Mary Shelley and feminist issues. We also analyze Rousseau in relation to the novel. We read articles on bio-ethics. We plot Maslow's hierarchy of needs for the creature. Students also write a creative story about a monster.
