The Impressionist style focus was on capturing a feeling and the study of light and color without the emphasis on accuracy. This gives students more freedom in the experience with less frustration and more success exploring with paint. Students in this age group often strive for representational work becoming discouraged with details. Using acrylic paints and quality brushes on canvas board provides students the earliest exposure to fine art materials. Elementary art classes often introduced students to basic painting with watercolors and tempera for easy clean up and affordability. These supplies will give the students an opportunity to create their own impressionist painting after practice lessons in this technique. Working with acrylics on canvas also helps students understand this art process after attending the Claude Monet exhibit in Denver, Colorado.
