These books will be used in my 6th Grade English Language Arts classes. I strongly believe in the power of student choice, and this will allow my students to select from current titles for our book clubs. Books clubs help to build classroom community and to foster an excitement for reading, but it can be a challenge to maintain a selection of recently-published books. This project will help me provide my students with a wider variety of choices for book clubs. These titles have been specifically chosen because they feature characters with various abilities or who come from different cultures. I think these messages are important for middle schoolers to hear. The stories also speak about the importance of perseverance; another important lesson for middle school students. These stories also will appeal to a wide variety of students, and I am excited to use them to help foster my students' growth as readers.
