Moving to a different country and having to learn new norms and customs can be daunting. My hope is to ease the emotional transition by having students read about characters that look like them and have had similar experiences. I want my students to be able to embrace the American culture while still maintaining pride in their own culture. I think that having access to these books will build my students' confidence to share who they and where they come from without feeling embarrassed. It is very important that they can embrace their differences, and built on the similarities. This project will help continue developing their literacy skills while strengthening their self-esteem and cultural appreciation.
