As we go through Louisiana's history, we will cover various topics from culture to latitude and longitude. The first unit of our curriculum discusses Native American tribes in Louisiana. As part of the unit project, students will design posters and book reports to describe the major tribes. Students will be divided into groups of 5-6 to create posters that depict each tribe. The reports will include attributes of each tribe such as their living conditions, how they got their food, what type of diseases they faced, and what drove them out of Louisiana. Each report will consist of 5-6 pages (one per group member), a title page, and a reference page. At the end of the unit, the groups will present what they have learned using the smart board and whiteboard. The second unit will have a similar project involving battles of the War of 1812. They will complete another poster and report. These materials will aid students in completing the four major projects of the school term.
