We have been learning that students come to us in different zones of regulation. Those zones can change throughout the day based on things that happen before they come to school, things that may be a trigger during the day, and their environment. I am hoping to create a calm and inviting classroom with tools for students who may need help getting regulated, and in the green zone, to learn. My grant would help me create a calm classroom with sensory tools for students to help get them in their best learning frame of mind. The flexible seating would allow students who need a little movement, to have that ability. The light I am asking for would help have a nice, calming affect to help enhance the stress-free environment. Some of the sensory tools would allow my students to keep their hands busy while their minds can stay focused on me. Some of the other sensory tools can help them relieve some of their anxious tension if they need a moment or two to do that. The visual timers are also calming but will be able to set an amount of time that they child can take to regulate. One book I have chosen will help give calming strategies and the other book is a picture book that students can read to help calm them down. I believe that with these tools and the environment I will be able to create through this grant, my students will have an even better chance at learning to their highest ability this school year. With students being in the regulated green zone, learning will be at an all time high.
