High-interest low-level books are essential to creating life long readers. When a child is reading below grade level, they are often discouraged. Especially at the older elementary/middle school age when their peers are reading chapter books. By providing high-interest low-level books to my Special Education students, I will be giving them chapter books that are on their reading level. Not only will I be giving them more content to read, but they will feel more included in their classrooms and more encouraged to read. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During small group time, my students are sitting on stools at a table with the teacher. I want to create a space for students to go to if they need to take a break. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. By providing beanbags as an alternative seating option for a student who may be feeling overwhelmed that day, I aim to help them continue to learn. When students can have a choice over where they can sit, they are more likely to be engaged and participate in the lesson.
