On August 3, 2019, El Paso endured a tragic mass shooting. Everyone in the community is dealing with the effects of this tragedy to include my 5th grade students. The books I'm requesting will help teach my students how to understand and manage emotions, the importance of showing empathy for others, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and making responsible decisions. As an educator it is my duty to not only teach my students curriculum, but to teach them how to navigate in the complex world we live in. They need to understand the perspectives of others to include those of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
