One of the keys to teaching a child a second language is to make it hands on and interactive whether they are learning about math, writing or another subject area. My students would love more interactive learning! With these math manipulatives, the students will be able to increase their understanding of the vocabulary of colors, money and numbers by getting to physically touch the math tools and experience the Spanish language as they are using the pieces. The writing journals are going to be a wonderful help for the students because they can write the Spanish words and sentences as well as having room to draw about what they are writing. This will help them connect the language to a concrete idea that makes sense to them. We can also use it as a tool to show the progression of the student's language acquisition throughout the year which would be incredible to give to parents on the last day!
