Older elementary students can get restless when working behind their desks for hours at a time. Movement is a very important piece in helping keep my students focused and engaged. I will use a new carpet in my room to teach mini lessons for readers and writer's workshop, as well as math, science and social studies lessons. From the carpet, students will then move to independent or small group work. I want my students to have an option to pick their own "stadium seating" around the classroom. They can create their own space to work on new skills and strategies. In these seats, they can work confidently and be their own biggest fan!
