At the end of last year, I had a lot of really amazing growth in most of my students but some always seem to slip through the cracks. They are embarrassed because they can't draw as well as the more accomplished students and so they don't find the joy in what they have done. These students are the ones who don't have the basic drawing skills and would benefit immensely from the addition of technology that would help to level the playing field when it comes to expressing themselves. The iPad brings with it the tools lower functioning students need to be able to express themselves in ways they can be proud of. They would have the ability to capture images of the world around them and use the compositional tools that would help them to create compositions without having to render them by hand. They would have a world of information and tutorials at their fingertips. It would allow them to focus on the creative process without the blight of not being able to draw the images they want to express themselves with. These tablets will be the equalizer that will help more students learn to develop ideas, find their voice, and develop their social interaction in positive ways.
