My students work on functional skills so that they can become more independent. They always look forward to "cooking day". They love working together to make something new to eat. We currently have limited cooking equipment in the classroom. My students are eager to learn more cooking skills beyond the microwave. The donations to this project will help to increase their knowledge in food preparation and cooking skills. In the cooking class, the students learn how to read a recipe, sequencing, turn taking, math skills, and social skills. A stand mixer will allow students with weak muscle strength to mix food in a safe manner instead of trying to hold a hand mixer that is too heavy for them to hold without assistance. By increasing our cooking equipment, this will open the world of cooking up for my students. There will be no limit in what they can cook.
