At the beginning of the school year, I send home a brief survey asking families to share with me what kind of literacy experiences that they have at home. Based on these surveys, as well as conversations with families, I have learned that many of the children that I work with do not have access to books at home. Exposure to a wide variety of books is critical for school success and to encourage a love of reading. I very much look forward to sharing these books on a rotating basis to each of my students, which will help to build their delayed language skills, as well as create opportunities for special moments in their caregivers' laps.
