Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed in order to help them stay more focused and enthusiastic about their learning. The bean bags will allow students to sit in a more comfortable area to help them focus. I have found that my students prefer more comfortable seating options. I have noticed when beginning to implement flexible seating that when a student hits a learning block, they tend to move to a more comfortable seating position to help them persevere through the tough work. My students enjoy being able to demonstrate their learning through hands-on projects so we need a variety of materials.
