These materials will make a HUGE difference to each one of my students! Since my students traditionally struggle in academics even when on campus, distance learning has been a major challenge and they are especially vulnerable to fall behind and become at-risk for more serious consequences. Nevertheless, my students have continued to show up everyday, put forth consistent effort, and seek help whenever they need it. Our classroom is about cultivating study skills that will not only improve their learning right now, but help them in whatever their future endeavors may be. Right now, we are reading articles and having discussions about how handwriting notes and organization are important study skills that will affect them beyond the classroom. We practice taking notes in our class, highlighting important information, and having critical discussions. We are setting goals to take better notes in academic classes, study for tests, and create and maintain schedules. The notebooks and writing utensils will give my students the tools to choose how they take down information. Furthermore, having different notebooks for different subjects and pencil pouches will help students practice organizational skills. The whiteboards, markers, and erasers will give more opportunities for how my students can respond to questions in class. The earbuds and styluses will allow students to ease of access on their iPads to participate in their virtual classrooms. My students are so motivated to be active, positive members of their community but many come from families who have been personally and financially affected by the pandemic. So many of my families have so much on their plate, school supplies have taken a backseat. These is an opportunity to shine a beacon of light for my students that they are important, they can overcome challenges and we are better together!
