One of the best ways for a child to be successful in school is to be a reader. In order to want to read, students need books in a classroom library that reflect themselves and not the same characters that they've been exposed to previously. My classroom is filled with kids from diverse backgrounds, cultures, family stories, home lives, and identities. They need access to a library that introduces them to characters like themselves. Reading can truly change a child's life. Reading allows kids to transform into other people, escape their daily realities, and go on adventures they may never have before. A diverse classroom library can help change a student's life and make them avid readers in the future.
