Flexible seating allows students to have choice in the classroom. They can decide on an area that is best for them to work efficiently. When students are comfortable working, they become more motivated to learn. From previous field placements, I have noticed an increase in students' behavior when they are given a choice in their seating. When students are provided with options on where to sit, they are more engaged and work hard to get the task completed. Allowing students to have a choice in where they would like to sit encourages them to work harder. I have selected a few items for my classroom that will allow my students to remain on task by utilizing various seating options. Wobble stools will let students sit at higher desks/tables while having a little bit of movement while they work. In a mainstream classroom, many students might just need to move around, and what better way than a seat that moves while still allows work to be completed! The comfy floor seats will allow students to complete work in different areas of the room without having to sit on the bare floor. A desk band is great for students who just need a little bit of space for movement in their own seats. Lastly, a rug will be useful for when students gather together for a whole class lesson. This can also be a place in the classroom where students can choose to go for independent work if they would like to get out of their seat.
