First grade is a time for many firsts. Opportunities for students to experience success as readers, mathematicians, and scientists are plentiful. As emergent readers, it is imperative students have the tools they need to practice their skills in an environment that provides access to quality literature, manipulatives, and basic school supplies. "Reading is a bridge from misery to hope."- Kofi Annan Creating a classroom that is organized and full of resources will allow students the chance to take risks in their learning and to practice skills they are still developing. Whisper phones are an auditory feedback device that allow emerging readers to listen to themselves as they read aloud. In doing so, students are given instant feedback in order to make necessary adjustments to their fluency while increasing reading comprehension. Privacy partitions allow the most hesitant of learners the privacy to practice their skills without the worry of those around them, while clipboards will give students mobility during reading centers. Through these donations we can give hope to students by building confidence and helping create lifelong learners!
