The 2019-2020 school year is going to be an exciting one! I will be new to first grade after spending that past eight years in intermediate. First grade is such an exciting time for these young learners. They soak up information like sponges! My goal with this project is to provide my students with exciting and endless reading materials as well as flexible seating to help keep them stay focused and engaged. Kids need to be excited about learning. The list of read-aloud books that I have put together are relatable, colorful, and, perfect for my class. The illustrations allow for visual learners to comprehend the plot, character traits, and the problem of the story. The developmentally appropriate dialogue and language exposes students to new vocabulary. The stimulation these books provide with pictures, vocabulary, and dialogue allows students to be engaged from start to finish. However, some students need that quiet place where they can read or listen to an audio book. Flexible seating throughout the classroom gives students the opportunity to get comfy, move through the jitters, or relax while still being engaged in their reading. The headphones would support the auditory needs of students. The noise-cancelling headphones would let students be completely immersed in their books without the frequent distractions in a typical elementary school classroom.
