Setting the stage to engage young scholars each day is my goal. Introducing energetic students to new book characters by dressing in fun costumes is one of my favorite pass times. Many students at my school are coming from low in come families, and do not have access to reading material at home. I love bringing real world experiences directly to the students with innovative lessons and books. Students are most engaged when I create memorable room transformations that bring wonderful learning experiences. With each new addition to our class library, I challenge students to make connections. Encouraging a love for reading through comfort and access. Creating a comfortable reading environment where students can learn to love and appreciate the benefits of reading. With cozy bean bag chairs, sturdy lap desks, and an inviting reading nook, my busy workers will have the opportunity to select where in the classroom they will perform their best.During small group instruction, I work with 6 students using interventions at their reading level while the rest of the class works at their seats. Seat cushions will make the small group table more inviting so students want to attend. It can be difficult for the rest of my class to remain focused and engaged while sitting in a hard chair. During center time flexible seating options will promote academic accountability. With my diverse group of scholars, each student has a different learning style. Most of my students are motor driven, and learn best kinesthetically. For active students, a kicking band allows them to exert energy while building reading stamina in one location. Some students work best while away from others in a quiet location. Flexible seating options instill a sense of inclusion for all learning styles, while giving the opportunity to explore new ways of learning.
