The typical image of a "classroom" hasn't really changed much in the public imagination. Many media depictions of school feature rows of desks facing a teacher's desk that indicates that it is the front of the room. This is where the teacher will dispense their wisdom in the form of a lecture.
However, that image of the "classroom" is not only outdated, it doesn't take into account the wide variety of learners that come through a classroom. Flexible seating and working options allow students to be comfortable while they work, by finding a situation that increases their comfort or ability to move. As I've worked to have many different seating options in my classroom, the one thing I have found I am lacking is good standing options for students that can't "sit still" and need to move a little while they work. These desks not only feature the ability to stand, but a movement bar underneath for them to be able to get wiggles out without disrupting others around them.
Trying to take in new information or work on a project while we are in discomfort is not easy to do as adults, let alone for kids. Help me help the students in my room who need to stand have a space.
Thank you!
