Our school has implemented flexible seating in order to increase student focus and comfort during the school day. Students will have a choice for their seating each day so they will be able to work with different groups each day, be comfortable and build stamina for working on tasks.
Not all students can learn to the best of their ability while sitting up in a hard metal chair.
I am asking for 8 disc seats and 4 stadium chairs to place around the tables, that the legs have been removed from. This will allow the students to sit at a table, but with a comfortable cushion on the floor. The 2 saucer chairs and 2 bean bag chairs will go in the library area, for comfort during independent reading times. The 4 lap desks are for students that are more at ease working on the carpet with their electronic devices.
We are hoping to encourage a strong classroom community through flexible seating by having shared supplies and minimizing the use of "mine" and switching it to "ours." Flexible seating will aid this by allowing the students to move each day to a new group or place around the room. These students deserve to learn in an environment that meets their needs and flexible seating will help me provide that for them.
