In my 9th and 10th grade geometry class, students will learn and engage with many important geometry concepts. Those concepts include: shapes and properties, congruence and transformations, area and perimeter, similarity, three-dimensional, measurement, Pythagorean Theorem, and more. Our students learn much better when they are presented with visual manipulatives to support them with geometry concepts. Students will use the requested geosticks, geoboards, and other math manipulatives and games to reinforce their understanding of geometric concepts. These manipulatives will also encourage them to make geometric designs to enter into a class competition for a T-shirt logo! Students from all our Geometry classes will have an opportunity to vote on their favorite designs , and the winning logo will be printed on T-shirts for all math teachers and students. This is an engaging way for students to use the geometrical concepts of the unit and apply their learning in a fun-competitive way. The skills that we learn through the visual manipulatives will be helpful to scaffold them into a later unit on architecture and geometry.
