There are over 400 million people around the globe that speak Spanish as a primary language. There are 20 countries that have an official language listed as Spanish. Being able to speak Spanish can be a very useful and rewarding skill. A young brain has a higher capacity to learn a new language. My kindergarten students will be completely immersed in Spanish, a new language for most of them. While with me, I will only speak Spanish to teach reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. I plan on using the Reading Recovery books to build a high interest, ability leveled library. Since this is the first year of the dual language immersion program at my school, I am in need of lots of Spanish language texts. Reading and speaking about books is a strong method for learning a new language.
