My school has a very high poverty rate and many of our students here come from homes where parents do not provide support of any kind. In first grade we work very hard to establish routines and norms within our class that will provide our students with a feeling a security and safety. At the same time, we want to challenge them and push them to their fullest potential, especially those who have parents at home that do not take an active part in the child's learning.
