My second grade students and I are noticing the effect COVID-19 has had on their social, emotional, and academic skills. My students are lacking confidence and excitement for learning, especially in the area of reading. Their achievement gaps are vast, as shown by Nevada Academic Content Standards testing and NWEA MAP testing, and I want to help my students grow to grade level. These tablets and accessories would be used daily in class at a technology center during our intervention and enrichment block. The Nevada Read by 3 technology in my class is currently limited and missing headphones, therefore adding new tablets and headphones will allow more students access to important programs. Our district has purchased research based reading and math programs and apps, but my students do not have the access to technology to use them. These apps use second grade standards and independent levels to help students' confidence and abilities grow. These learning tools can be used to help students who struggle with reading or math, and can also be used to enhance learning for my students who are currently working at grade level. The tablets and headphones will allow my students an engaging and proven way to grow in their independent reading and math levels, while also becoming more excited and confident in their academics.
