Play is a child's natural way of communicating. Children often have difficulty using words to communicate what they are thinking and feeling in a given moment. However, in creating a space where children can feel comfortable and safe, we give them the optimal opportunity to express themselves. With cozy seating, warm lighting, and sensory materials, children feel more open and at ease; and that is the first step in creating a supportive counselor-student relationship. In addition, my students will learn important mental health topics such as empathy, mindfulness, among other skills necessary to be a productive citizen in today's society.

About my class
