Six and seven year old children can loose focus easily if they are not able to move around the classroom frequently throughout the day. Students also need to feel a sense of community, inclusion, and acceptance for maximum learning to take place. A rug would provide a central meeting space where we could come together as a class family. When we are at the rug, the children will receive instruction, listen to stories, share thoughts, and feel included in the positive learning community that we strive to create. They will also move from their seat to the rug several times a day which will help with focus issues. We are currently using a foam mat to sit on. A cozy rug would be a wonderful change!
